So I think my analytical research paper is going to be about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Just kidding, that would be crazy. I have been watching Dollhouse every time I had to write a blog so obviously I am going to write about it. I think I am going to argue that technology no matter what it was intended for, can be used for bad things if put in the wrong hands and in the wrong situation. Dollhouse really sets this up because so far, it has been used for mostly good things, but it definitely has the potential to be extremely bad. I think I will compare it to things in this world that were originally designed for good but eventually used for violence and harm like airplanes and explosives and things like that. The only problem I think I will have with this is turning it into a 7 page paper. Hell, I think 5 pages would be difficult. I think I might need out watch more Dollhouse and find some more evidence showing that Dollhouse has the potential to be used for harming innocent people. There are plenty of examples of modern technology gone wrong but I do not want my whole paper to be about that. Sorry if this blog isn’t my best but I am kind of sick at the moment. Sorry
hahaha nice prospectus (: but i think your idea is good (: you could tie it to like nuclear technology or bomb technology since you hear about stuff like that all the time in the real world. just the other day on the news there was a backpack bomb somewhere i cant remember but this proves that if the technology gets into the wrong hands it can turn ugly. you definitely need to watch more episodes though. and 7 pages is going to kill me too. theres only so much you can say about this.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be saying that the writers of Dollhouse are arguing that technolgy will always be used for bad when put in the wrong hands. The main evidence for this seems to be how the technolgy was used in order to rob a vault in a hotel. This argument is timely because there is always new technolgy being developed around the world. Have you thought about connecting this argument to cloning or something like that because over the past years we’ve been hearing a lot about that. Its also a controversal issue just like the Dollhouse’s memory wiping is.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a good argument that you can tie to many diffrent things. You can tie it to 9/11 attack and just modern everyday things such as facebook and texting that can be distractions from the main goal or task you are trying to accomplish.
ReplyDeleteI actually wish I had chosen the argument of technology being good or bad for my paper. There are so many examples that could be researched to prove how technology has made a difference (for better or for worse). You and Brittney made a valid point about technology used for bombs. There is a lot of research that could be used behind that. You could look at it from the perspective of where explosive technology originated. Technology is bad when put in the wrong hands is a good thesis to start. Another real world example to research could be online processing. By this I mean, shopping online and using online agents to help an individual out. On one hand, it is great! It is so easy to use, just put in your information and credit card number and with a few clicks you are done. However, as we all know since it is on the computer you are at risk for getting your identity stolen. This could cause a lot of problems, obviously. There is probably a lot of research and case support behind this claim. Good luck writing 7 pages, but with the right research it shouldn’t be too bad.
ReplyDeleteHahaha this blog made me laugh, but i do agree with you! It seems like people always take advantage of the good things they have. Having too much or too good of something just seems bad anyways, if that makes sense.
